“THEY’RE BACK!”
Aprons have returned to the scene. They’ve made an entirely new entrance.
Constructed of novelty and whimsical fabrics, disguised as a really cute dress. Turn around, and the back is open. So yes....it’s an apron.
My interest in vintage aprons began about five years ago. Recently, I found myself researching everthing I could about aprons and imagining myself creating one design after another. These days, most of my leisure time is spent doing something with, to, about, or in, an apron.
This web site was created to tickle your fancy with the fun of aprons. Choose an apron that speaks to you. One that expresses something special about your personality, or someone you know.
Each design is handmade with imagination.
What do you remember about maybe your mother's, grandmother's or your aunt's apron?
Well, I actually remember that my father, who owned an upholstery business, designed and sewed his own aprons. His designs would have a pocket, a hook, or a slot for every upholstery tool it could hold.
I remember my mother wearing a floral print apron, while she tirelessly worked to take care of her three kids and our home.
As a little girl, when I heard that wonderful melody of the ice cream truck, I would run into the kitchen... "Mommy, Mommy, can I have some money for the ice cream man?" She’d reach into her pocket and pull out any excess change to give me. Most likely, she'd found it tucked in a chair or the sofa while cleaning it that morning. "Ice cream, Ice cream!... I still scream for ice cream."
So what’s the big deal about an apron?
Well, they sort of help us remain connected to the past in a special way. Aprons have been around at least as far back as the 1800s, and they’ve changed with the times as fashion dictated. Many of us have a memory attached to the wearing of an apron, or to the wearer of an apron.
At some point, some of us decided we'd change into ragged clothes, instead of wearing an apron. Then we attached a negative connotation to aprons. So aprons faded somewhat into the background.
Well, let’s rethink this…
When an apron is wrapped around the body, it means WORK IS ABOUT TO BE DONE! Dishes washed, floors swept or vacuumed, furniture polished, and so much more of what some might consider drudgery.
But, if you have a home, be thankful for it and take care of it. Or, make sure you're paying the right person(s) to take care of it.
*So treat yourself to an apron, or give one as a gift to the person who cleans for you.*
If you love to eat, or you love to cook for others, you or someone you know more than likely prepares a meal.
*So treat yourself to an apron, or give one as a gift to the one who does the cooking for you.*
Some of today’s aprons can actually be worn over an outfit, with or without a top underneath, making an awesome fashion statement.
Wear a beautifully fashioned apron when hostessing a party or event. Step out in an apron made of high-priced designer fabric, embellished with ribbons, lace, sequins and more.
An apron can be worn for work or to play, and constructed from 100% cotton, to satin, silk and even leather.
Try thinking of certain styles of aprons like you would a vest. An apron can accent your outfit and bring the viewing eye exactly where you want it.
Sometimes a different take on something, surprises us.
Aprons are back and such a practical necessity. So think about giving an apron for Birthdays, Bridal Showers, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Valentines Day, Easter, Christmas, 4th of July BBQs, every day of your life!
If you’ve gotta do it, why not look cute? And remember, it’s okay to do it while wearing an apron.
"Go ahead, get it dirty!"
